Richarlison Expected to Leave Spurs at the End of Season

Rumours are that Richarlison could be leaving the Tottenham Hotspur stadium as early as this summer. While the move of the Brazilian from Everton to Tottenham was a big deal, the £60 million signing hasn’t gone exactly to plan.
This is because Richalison has only managed to hit the back of the net just 11 times in the current season, and with an injury sidelining him for the rest of the campaign, it marks a relatively disappointing period for the striker.
Who will sign Richarlison?
The good news is that there remains plenty of interest in Richarlison, with the Saudi Arabian club, Al-Hilal, being among the biggest suitors. Al-Hilal approached Tottenham in the January transfer window, and their interest has not gone away over the past few months.
At just 27 years of age, signing Richarlison would be a coup for the Saudi Arabian football league, and it would free up plenty of money for Tottenham to rebuild their side after a mixed Premier League campaign.
While Spurs started the season incredibly strongly under new boss, Ange Postecoglou, things have gradually unravelled and now the London side’s odds are slipping at the betting sites featured at resources like Betting.co.uk to be playing European football next season.
Postecoglou had reimagined the way Tottenham played in a way that was far removed from the turgid and defensive displays of previous managers, Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.
Instead, he delivered a bold and attacking style of play that initially worked wonders with new signings such as James Maddison thriving in the freedom. However, Richarlison was frequently beset by injuries and his own mental health struggles. Barring a brief nine-goal purple patch over winter, the Brazilian star has rarely looked settled and it seems that Postecoglou might be willing to let him go to start afresh.
Who will Spurs sign to replace Richarlison?
One of Tottenham’s first priorities is to decide whether to turn Timo Werner’s loan deal into a permanent move. While the German striker has shown exceptional pace and determination, his end-product has often been lacking, and this means that Spurs might look elsewhere to bolster their attacking options.
The Brazilian winger Raphinha has repeatedly been linked with a Tottenham move over the past few months. Raphinha dazzled Leeds fans during his two year tenure at the club before leaving to join Barcelona in 2022. While the Brazilian has lost none of his talent, it seems that the Spanish side is ready to let him go in a bid to finance the purchase of Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao.
Another option is Brentford’s Ivan Toney. The England international is a proven goalscorer despite his relatively recent lack of form. While Toney was initially of interest to both Arsenal and Chelsea, those teams have switched their attention elsewhere and it could leave Spurs as the most likely candidates to sign Toney.
The signing of Toney would make sense if the club wanted to find a suitable replacement to the still-missed Harry Kane. While there is no denying the ability of Son Heung-Min, the Korean striker doesn’t fit quite the same mould of being a straight ahead goalscorer.
As such there remains plenty of speculation about other names including Santiago Gimenez of Feyenoord, Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy and even the Sporting CP forward Viktor Gyokeres. Any one of these players could give Tottenham a fresh new start after what has ultimately been a disappointing end to their current campaign. But whatever happens to Richarlison, it’s clear that Ange Postecoglou’s transformation of Tottenham is only just beginning.
